TKC Extreme: Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What specific environments is the TKC Extreme built for?
Q: What specific environments is the TKC Extreme built for?
A:The TKC Extreme is engineered specifically for navigating unfloored residential attics. It is structurally designed to give tradesmen a secure, mobile platform when moving across 16" center ceiling joists.
Q: How does it reduce the risk of falling through the drywall or insulation?
Q: How does it reduce the risk of falling through the drywall or insulation?
A:The TKC Extreme features Zero-Bend Stability by utilizing encapsulated lightweight structural rods. This creates a perfectly flat, rigid core designed to resist sagging, bowing, or snapping when safely bridging standard 16-inch center structural joists.
Q: Do my knees need to land perfectly on top of the joist every time I move?
Q: Do my knees need to land perfectly on top of the joist every time I move?
A:No. We engineered the TKC Extreme with an Extended Safe-Landing Base that protrudes up to 2 inches past the kneecap. This provides a more secure, flat landing and significantly reduces the need for perfect perpendicular alignment when you are shifting your weight in a dark or tight attic space.
Q: Will this reduce the foot and joint pain caused when using standard knee pads in an attic?
Q: Will this reduce the foot and joint pain caused when using standard knee pads in an attic?
A:Yes, the device is designed to provide additional relief. Standard pads put your entire body weight directly onto your kneecaps and feet. The TKC Extreme uses a softer XLPE foam on topside and a more rigid and durable bottom. It runs the entire length of the lower leg and distributes weight more evenly. This effectively reduces pressure away from both your knees and feet and gives the user that ability to shift as needed.
Q: What calf sizes does the TKC Extreme accommodate?
Q: What calf sizes does the TKC Extreme accommodate?
A: The TKC Extreme features adjustable through & through strapping designed to secure a calf range circumference measurement of 12 inches to 20 inches.
Q: Can I just use the standard ToeKnee Crawler 2.0 or 3.0 in the attic instead?
Q: Can I just use the standard ToeKnee Crawler 2.0 or 3.0 in the attic instead?
A:Absolutely not. The standard ToeKnee Crawler carries a strict "NOT FOR ATTIC USE" restriction. Only the TKC Extreme is structurally rated for bridging 16-inch ceiling joists and has an intentional sleeker design that improves the functionality in tight spaces.
Built by a Builder. Perfected by Reality. My name is Ed Schoen, and for the last 40 years, I’ve been on the front lines of the trades. I engineered the TKC Extreme to solve the problems I faced every single day—knee pads that slip, gear that pinches, and the constant fear of putting a foot through a ceiling. This is a professional-grade stabilization system I still carry on my own jobs today.
